Yesterday’s U21 Open Singles was won by Cheltenham’s Louie Hodges who received a cheque for £500 from our sponsor Cellar Supplies. The losing finalist was Jack Davies (Thomastown BC Merthyr Tydfil) who received £200. Losing semi-finalists were Kieron Jaycock (Broadway BC Bucks) & Jake Burlow (Bishops Cleeve) £75. In the Pairs Plate, Alfie Holland (Avon BC Warks) & Dylan Williamson (Cheltenham BC ) beat Aaron Broom (Congresbury BC Somerset) & Joseph Davies (Merthyr West End BC) receiving £50 & £25 respectively.
Our thanks to organiser Lee Williamson assisted by Michael Cox and too many others to mention who helped with the greens, kitchen and bar; also the two umpires who donated their fee to the Captains’ Charity.

The club’s progress in the National Double Rink came to an end at Broadway on Thursday losing by 2 shots to our old nemesis Worcester BC. The club hopes now rest with the National Top Club v Holt BC (Wilts) at Highworth BC on Friday 31 July. Start 6-30pm. Support welcome.
NGL. After a poor outcome against Tewkesbury last Thursday we need to put out a stronger team against Bredon at home on the Wednesday 5th August if we are to get the 10 points required to win the league. Nominations from A and B Squads would be welcome.
More names required for the tourist home games against Windsor Penarth and Kidlington.
OTHER MATTERS:
The snooker room will be closed on Saturday 1 August
The Summer Ball on 15th August needs c70 minimum to make it viable. Currently about 45 have made the commitment but we need a few more names added to the list at the bar by Friday. Please note if you don’t have a dinner jacket ‘very smart’ will do with bow tie or tie for men and smart dress for ladies.
More help is required in the kitchen from men and woman so that food can be prepared for matches and events without leaving catering to the few. This doesn’t mean you will be doing it every game only a few times a year if we have about 20 willing members. In addition, there are many other jobs around the club that can be done by volunteers which will keep costs down.
Please don’t leave it to the 10 or so people that do everything in the club to enable you to enjoy bowling and social activities. It’s your club so help out please.

Barry Steele passed away on the 14th July aged 97. Barry was Club President in 2012 and together with Doreen they were very active and influential members of our club for any years. His funeral will take place on the 3rd August at Willow Chapel Cheltenham Crematorium at 2-30pm.
